It’s time to go big or go home! The minnow bite is heating up as anglers are catching more walleye, bass, and pike on medium to large suckers, chubs, and red tails. I prefer trolling them on a live bait (Lindy) rig or spinner rig with a bottom bouncer to find fish. Once I find them on my electronics, I will troll over them a few times before I employ vertical fishing and pitching techniques such as a slip bobber or a jig. Walleyes and smallmouth bass haven’t moved much the past few weeks. We are finding them anywhere from 18’-30’. You’ll find largemouth bass and pike a little shallower, in 13-20’. If you have trouble locating fish on your fishfinder, look for schools of bait fish or deep weedlines and fish near them. Remember, when using bigger minnows, it pays to be patient. Give it some time before you set the hook. Good luck out there and remember to take pics of the big one! Thanks for reading!
