Detroit Lakes Fishing Report (5/28/24)

A quick warning for you all–the first 5’-6’ feet of the docks at the south public access on Detroit as well as the public access dock on Sallie are completely underwater by as much as 6”.  Plan to take your shoes off.  The fishing has been steady on area lakes.  Walleyes are primarily roaming outside weedlines in 13’-15’.  We’ve had success casting and retrieving sucker minnows on a live bait rig or on a ⅛ oz. gold jig.  A slip bobber & leech combo has also been an effective bait.  Small pike are abundant in 11’-13’ but you can find larger pike if you go deeper into walleye territory.  Largemouth bass and large bluegill have been active in shallow emerging reeds and lily pads.  Both smallmouth and largemouth action can be found near weedlines in 8’-13’ right now.  FYI - the FM Walleyes Pelican Lake tournament is this Friday/Saturday.  (It will be a good weekend, to try out another lake.)  Good luck everyone, and tight lines!
