As you can see, the ice sure did a number on the Rossman access on Little Detroit this winter! While area lakes still have 10-20” of main lake ice, it is compromised and losing strength. The ice has gotten slushy near shore too. I’d say it’s officially time to start prepping our boats for the open water season, as spawning crappies will be calling our names sooner than we know it!
In the meantime, I’m sure many of you anglers are planning a Rainy river early walleye trip in the next two weeks. Some public accesses on Rainy river are open right now, including the landing at International Falls, and the Pelland access further west. Birchdale and other accesses nearer Baudette may even be open at the time this is published. I’ll give you an update next week. Until then, get that boat ready. If you are heading up north, good luck!
