There is still a month of fishing ahead of us and it keeps getting better each day. Minnows, crawlers and big plastics are working well for walleye but the warm water water temps have kept the leech bite going too–even pike have been eating them up lately! Look for tall sparse weeds right now on your electronics and you’ll find those pike. Bluegill can be found all over, from 8’-25’, and they get bigger the deeper you go. We’ve caught ‘eyes and smallmouth shallower than previously reported, anywhere from 18’-22’. Walleyes can be found up to twice that deep on some lakes, though. We’ve had luck trolling minnows and crawlers on a live bait or Lindy rig very slow, from .3-.4 mph. Go any faster with a Lindy rig and you’ll miss opportunities. When we find a school, we’ve had luck stopping and throwing out a jig, drop shot or bobber with a minnow. We'll start discussing muskies in a few weeks. Until then, good luck fishing!
