Fishing Report
Sunfish anglers have earned their keep the past week, as the bite has slowed in places where it was hot just a week ago, near weed lines in 10’-12’. The pike are roaming in those areas now, and they are a blast to catch on big sucker minnows! Consider going deeper, adjacent to deep bars in 20’-25’ for ‘gills. You may also find them shallower in thicker weeds, if you’re willing to fish there. Your efforts may be rewarded as those thicker, shallower green weeds also hold the biggest crappies and walleye in any lake (hot tip!). The crappie bite has slowed only slightly, but they are biting lighter. Use noodle tip rods with small jigs and spoons. Wax worms have outproduced minnows, too. My tip for walleye anglers? Lake of the Woods will have the best bite for the remainder of the ice season. Historically, the local walleye bite slows down this time of year. If you target 'eyes in this area, fish deeper, and near midlake structure for the best action. They are also found in the evening, sneaking into shallow weeds to feed on minnows. Good luck fishing. I hope to see you at Pole & Holes this weekend. Look for the Baxstar booth, and come say hi!
New Rental Availability On Detroit Lake & Date Night On The Ice
Baxstar now offers single day rentals in our 21' Ice Castle (it's actually a whopping 26' with the V!). The rate is $400 a night. All of our 17' Ice Castles are also available for single night rentals for $300. Single night rentals are available on Sundays-Thursdays the rest of the ice fishing season! We still have some availability for all of our houses this month but they are booking up fast!
