The bite continues to be incredible in the Detroit Lakes area due, in part, to the unseasonably warm weather. Walleyes can still be found by shallow green weeds, but they have otherwise moved out to deeper water (20’+). Jigging and deadsticks with smaller minnows are equally producing. Crappies are suspended above deep basins, as well as near shallow weeds. The bite window for both of these species is shifting later, with the sunset. Unfortunately, this same warm weather is likely to melt snow and some ice. This weekend should still be manageable but I will be pulling my houses off the lake on Sunday to avoid wet conditions. Overall it is my recommendation that anglers stay off the lakes until conditions improve. My hope is the weather will cool down and conditions will improve just in time for the Poles ‘n Holes fishing tournament on February 10th. Until next week, stay safe, everyone!
