Very big fish are being caught, but cooler water temps will bring even better fishing soon. You’ll find aggressive pike and largemouth bass in 13’-20’ right now using a jig with a large minnow or plastic. Fishing heavier spinner baits (slowly) and large crankbaits in those depths is another great option. Bluegill are spread out and they are biting on crawlers in 10’-25’. Smallmouth bass are chasing large minnows and plastics on dropshots and jigs in 18’-22’. Walleyes are biting on crawlers and big minnows on bottom bounced spinners, drop shots, and jigs in 18’-30’. Here’s a hot tip–when trolling bottom bouncers–use 1 oz of weight per 10 feet of water (eg. use 2.5 oz. when the water is 25’ deep). This keeps the weight pinned to the bottom, where you want it. Let your line down before getting up to full speed and stop as soon as it hits bottom. Troll at 1-1.2 mph. If you hit weeds, you can do one of three things: go deeper, decrease weight or increase speed. Thanks for reading. Muskie info next week!
